Frequently Asked Questions
Straight Answers About
Payment Processing
No jargon, no runaround. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most from Brevard County business owners.
💰 Pricing & Costs
How much does credit card processing cost?
+
Processing costs vary by business type, transaction volume, and the types of cards your customers use. Most merchants pay between 1.5% and 3.5% per transaction on a blended basis. We use interchange-plus pricing, which separates the card network cost from our markup — so you always know exactly what you're paying and why. Send us your statement and we'll show you a line-by-line breakdown for free.
What is interchange-plus pricing?
+
Interchange-plus is the most transparent pricing model in the industry. You pay the actual interchange rate set by Visa/Mastercard (which varies by card type), plus a small fixed markup from us. Unlike bundled or tiered pricing, there are no hidden categories or surprise fees. Every line on your statement is explainable. See our full pricing breakdown →
What is dual pricing / cash discount?
+
Dual pricing displays two prices at the point of sale: a cash price and a card price. The card price includes the processing fee, so as a business owner you effectively pay zero processing costs — the customer covers it if they choose to pay by card. This is legal in Florida and increasingly popular with small businesses looking to eliminate processing expenses entirely. We can set this up for you and ensure it's fully compliant. Are there hidden fees?
+
Not with us. We explain every fee before you sign anything, and we review your first statement with you after the first month to make sure everything matches what we quoted. If something doesn't look right, we fix it immediately. That's the benefit of working with a local team who stakes their reputation on every merchant relationship.
Do I need to sign a long-term contract?
+
No. We don't require long-term contracts or charge early termination fees. We earn your business every month by providing great service and fair pricing. If we're not delivering, you're free to leave — no penalties, no games.

How long does it take to switch processors?
+
Most switches are completed in 3-5 business days once paperwork is signed. We handle the full setup — equipment programming, gateway configuration, and staff training. There's usually zero downtime; we get the new system running before the old one is shut off.
Will there be any downtime when switching?
+
In most cases, no. We set up your new processing before canceling the old account, so there's a seamless transition. If new hardware is involved, we install and test it in advance so you're never without the ability to accept payments.
Do you serve my type of business?
+
We serve virtually every business type in Brevard County — restaurants, retail, medical/dental, auto repair, mobile businesses, food trucks, legal firms, CPAs, and even high-risk industries like smoke shops and vape stores. If you accept payments, we can help. See all industries we serve →
🖥️ POS Systems & Equipment
What POS systems do you offer?
+
We work with multiple POS providers and don't push one brand. We evaluate your business type, workflow, and volume to recommend the best fit — whether that's a full restaurant system with kitchen display, a simple retail terminal, or a mobile solution for field work. Visit our POS Systems page →
Do I need to buy new equipment?
+
Not always. In many cases, your existing terminal or POS system can be reprogrammed to work with a new processor. We'll evaluate your current setup first and only recommend new equipment if it genuinely benefits your business. And if you do need new hardware, we offer no-contract options — no leases with hidden buyout clauses.
What happens if my terminal goes down?
+
Call or text us immediately. Because we're local to Brevard County, we can troubleshoot remotely in minutes or be at your location the same day if needed. We also help set up backup processing options so you're never completely down during business hours.
Is there a "free" equipment catch?
+
Be very cautious of "free" terminal offers from big processors — they often come with equipment leases, inflated rates, or long-term contracts that cost you far more in the long run. We're transparent about equipment costs upfront. If there's a cost, we'll tell you. If a free option makes sense for your situation, we'll present it honestly with no strings attached.
🤝 Support & Service
How do I reach support?
+
Text or call (321) 396-5151. That's a direct line to our team — the same people who set up your system and know your business. No hold queues, no ticket systems, no being transferred to someone who's never heard of you. We also respond to emails at [email protected].
What makes SpaceCoast Payments different from a big processor?
+
Three things: 1) We're local — we can be at your Brevard County business the same day if something goes wrong. 2) You talk to the same person every time — not a rotating call center. 3) We're veteran-owned and our income depends on keeping you happy long-term, not closing you and moving on. Read our full story →
What does "veteran-owned" mean for how you do business?
+
SpaceCoast Payments was founded by Ron Hunter DeLoach, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with 8 years of service including Iraq. Veteran-owned isn't just a badge — it means we operate with the same values that defined military service: show up, follow through, don't make promises you can't keep, and never leave someone behind. That's how we treat every merchant relationship.
What areas do you serve?
+
We serve all of Brevard County, Florida including Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Titusville, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, Indialantic, Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, and Port St. John. If you're in the area, we're your local team.
🛡️ Chargebacks & Fraud
What is a chargeback and what do I do if I get one?
+
A chargeback happens when a customer disputes a transaction with their card issuer. The funds are pulled from your account while the dispute is investigated. Don't ignore it. Contact us immediately — we'll help you gather the right documentation, file a response within the deadline, and fight the ones worth fighting. Uncontested chargebacks cost you money and raise your risk profile.
Can you help prevent fraud?
+
Yes. We help you set up fraud monitoring tools, transaction alerts, and best practices to reduce your exposure. This includes AVS (Address Verification), CVV requirements, velocity filters, and employee training guidance. Prevention is always cheaper than fighting disputes after the fact.
